Farmers in the Midwest will have some opportunity to plant over the next two weeks. “I think we need to take full advantage of decent conditions while we can, because I’m not convinced the break will last long,” said Drew Lerner, senior agricultural meteorologist, World Weather Incorporated. “I think we’ll see colder air return to the Northern Plains. Some of that will push to the upper parts of the Midwest. There will be additional opportunities for rain.” Lerner said the Northern Plains will also have an opportunity to get fieldwork done over the next couple of weeks, especially out west. “When we do get into a more significant warm up, it will bring a jet stream back to the north, providing an opportunity for more precipitation.” said Lerner. “It may not be as big of a deal out west. Nevertheless, we would like it to stay dry and turn warmer rather than have it get on the wetter side as things warm up.” Listen to Lerner’s latest forecast.
