After difficult spring one year ago, South Dakota farmers intend to boost soybean and corn acreage significantly. According to the prospective plantings report, South Dakota farmers are expected to plant 6 million acres of corn and 5.4 million acres of soybeans. If that happens, corn acreage would be up 38 percent from last year and soybean acreage would jump by 54 percent. Sunflower, barley and oats are also expected to see a big increase from 2019.
