The third stimulus bill includes an additional $9.5 billion in funding for USDA to support livestock and dairy producers, local food providers and specialty crop producers. There’s also a $14 billion boost in funding authority for USDA’s Commodity Credit Corporation. North Dakota Senator John Hoeven says more assistance is likely for ag producers, but there are unknowns on what this could look like. “Whether it’s a third Market Facilitation Program, or referred to as something else, we’ll see. As far as the USDA formally announcing the program and how it’s going to work, that’s what we have to put together when we have the funding to do it.” Hoeven says it’s important to use CCC funds fairly for all producers. “We need to get this done and work with everyone to make this inclusive and fair.” The bill also includes more funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, a boost to rural broadband, rural hospitals, local food banks and pantries.
