While the U.S. and China trade talks continue, the U.S. soy industry is continuing to diversify its markets. U.S. Soybean Export Council Senior Director Ed Beaman says emerging markets include Pakistan, India and others. “Egypt, Morocco and other areas of Africa are interesting markets to us. Their poultry and aquaculture sectors are growing quickly. We’re positioning ourselves to be there.” Beaman says the U.S. soybean industry is working hard to maintain their relationship with China. It’s hard to know if China will import greater volumes of U.S. soybeans moving forward. “Had we not maintained our relationship management model, the opportunity for U.S. soy to continue to be in the market would be lessened,” he says. “As the need arises and demand continues to grow, it will normalize. Developing emerging markets are the right thing to do.”
