The U.S. Mexico Canada Agreement isn’t taking a backseat to China trade chats. That’s according to South Dakota Congressman Dusty Johnson. “I am talking to my Democratic colleagues, making sure they understand the value proposition of the American economy of a ratified USMCA. If we can get this to the floor, it will pass,” he says. “While China is hugely important, I wouldn’t say the USMCA is taking a backseat to anything right now.” Johnson says generally, the House doesn’t like the Section 232 tariffs, but they will be more flexible than the Senate in addressing those once the USMCA is ratified. “There is a sense of urgency in the House we need to get USMCA done.”
