A bill regarding cell-cultured protein grown in labs has been introduced in the U.S. Senate. The Cell-Cultured Meat and Poultry Regulation Act would codify the responsibilities of USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service and the Food and Drug Administration. The legislation places cell-cultured proteins under FSIS jurisdiction by amending current laws governing its oversight. USDA and FDA have already agreed to a joint regulatory effort regarding cell-cultured food products.
