The Democrats have flipped the House and the Senate. In the Upper Chamber, a lot of attention has been paid to Democratic wins in Texas, Michigan and Kansas. For agriculture, former Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown is returning to Congress. With Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar moving to the governor’s residence, Brown is now the likely new chair of the Senate Agriculture Committee. Brown previously served on the ag committee from 2007 to 2025. Ohio Representative Shontel Brown and California Representative Jim Costa are both seeking the chairmanship of the House Agriculture Committee. The current ag committee chair, Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson, easily won reelection, but must secure a waiver from his caucus to remain in the leadership role. Georgia Congressman Austin Scott has also said he wants to lead the Republicans on the House ag committee. Whatever happens, it appears Arkansas Senator John Boozman is the only one of the current ‘four corners’ who will be on the job in the new Congress.
