Bayer CropScience is investing $45 million CAD in a canola innovation centre in Winnipeg. This site will handle seed development work for canola, winter canola and camelina. Operation at the facility is expected to start in late 2028. The new centre will consolidate some canola breeding operations and seed generation activities. Bayer’s existing Smartpark site in Winnipeg will continue early breeding workflows while its Carman site will operate as a multi-crop nursery field operation.
