Despite a growing season filled with weather challenges, Hallock, Minnesota farmer Dan Younggren said harvest results were better than expected. “So I call that a success,” Younggren said. “Our wheat harvest was a very, very nice wheat harvest.” Younggren was also pleased with soybean and canola yields despite significant heat stress. Sugarbeet results were more variable. Early beets yielded 20 to 21 tons per acre with sugar content ranging from 18.5 to 19.5 percent. After five inches of rain improved tonnage, sugar content fell as low as 14 to 15 percent before recovering. “I think the (Red River) Valley average is going to end up somewhere around the upper 17s,” Younggren said.
