The federal budget deficit climbed to nearly $2 trillion during the fiscal year ending September 30. The Congressional Budget Office says the deficit reached $1.993 trillion, up 12 percent from a year ago. Federal spending rose to $7.4 trillion, while revenue totaled $5.4 trillion. Interest payments on the national debt topped $1.1 trillion, up $115 billion.
