If realized, this year’s canola production in Minnesota and North Dakota will be the highest ever. The planted area in North Dakota is record high at 2.3 million acres, up nearly 30 percent from last year. North Dakota’s canola yield is averaging 1,830 pounds per acre, down nearly 300 pounds. Minnesota farmers averaged 2,200 pounds per acre for their canola, down from 2,310 pounds per acre in 2025.
