American Farm Bureau Federation Vice President of Public Policy and Economic Analysis John Newton said stronger commodity prices have not been enough to offset rising expenses. Congress is considering another farm assistance package during the lame-duck session. Newton also pointed to increased commodity support programs approved earlier as another source of financial relief. While assistance can provide short-term help, Newton said reducing fuel costs remains important. “What’s going to ultimately reduce fuel costs and kind of put a damper on inflation is an end to these conflicts around the world, whether that’s with Iran or Russia/Ukraine.” Newton said 2027 production costs are already expected to set another record, with fertilizer prices beginning to move higher.
