The National Sunflower Association is looking to the farm bill for additional investment in sunflower breeding and market development. The sunflower breeding initiative included in the Senate version would provide USDA with more resources to develop hybrids suited for North American production. A lot of the genetic development in the sunflower business is for the larger producers like Russia and Ukraine. “That’s that’s the reason we really want the research to be focused on what North American farmers need and and definitely that would really help us,” said John Sandbakken, NSA executive director. Sandbakken was part of Tuesday’s ag roundtable event in Fargo.
