High diesel prices can affect farmers beyond the cost of running tractors and combines. Association of North Dakota Agribusiness Executive Vice President Stu Letcher says it also impacts the cost to move grain. “The fuel surcharge is determined by the diesel price and as diesel prices increase, fuel surcharge increases,” said Letcher. “For the farmer, that added freight expense can ultimately show up closer to home through a wider basis.”
