Minnesota Senator Tina Smith met with farmers in southwest Minnesota Friday. With high diesel prices and an uncertain trade environment, the anxiety level is high. “It’s just so frustrating for people when we’re in a trade war with Canada while at the same time the president is lavishly entertaining the premier of China,” Smith told RRFN. “It just doesn’t make sense to people, as they’re sort of struggling to hold it together.” The farm bill was an obvious topic at the farmer roundtable. It is not expected to come to the floor till after the election. The Republicans and Democrats remain divided over the SNAP payment error rates. Smith believes there’s room for compromise on this issue.
