The drought and heat took a significant toll on crops near Belfield, North Dakota. Greg Kessel said all of his malt barley was cut for hay, while harvested wheat yielded in the mid-20 to 30-bushel range with test weights of only 49 to 52 pounds. Corn prospects aren’t much better. “Not much for yield—25-bushel yield on them. Corn is suffering pretty bad.” Recent rainfall has softened the ground and could provide an opportunity for fall fieldwork.
