Record diesel prices are adding another major expense for farmers during harvest. International Services Incorporated Chief Growth Officer Jay Aldibert said the United States produces more diesel than it consumes, but overseas buyers are competing for that supply. Russia has reduced exports, while refinery disruptions in the Gulf have also tightened the global availability. “What we’re really competing with is the world, right? We have all these buyers that want American diesel because they need it; they’re not getting it from any other source.” Alderbert encourages farmers to review working capital, equipment debt, and the amount of profit needed to cover monthly expenses right now. He says those numbers will be important when producers meet with lenders and prepare for 2027.
