Former South Dakota legislator and nominee for governor, Lars Herseth, has died at the age of 80. Herseth farmed at Houghton, South Dakota. He also served as president of the American Coalition for Ethanol. This is a political family with Herseth’s dad serving as governor and mother as secretary of state. Herseth’s daughter, Stephanie Herseth Sandlin, served in Congress from 2004 to 2011 and is now president of Augustana University in Sioux Falls.
