Disruptions involving Black Sea ports are adding uncertainty to the global wheat market. NDSU Extension Crops Economist Frayne Olson said buyers are watching both the extent and duration of the disruptions. “The big concern right now is how much damage was done and how long this will last, and we really don’t know.” Some buyers are purchasing additional wheat to protect against delayed or missed deliveries. “There’s still wheat available on the global market,” Olson said. “It’s just one of the really big suppliers is having some big troubles right now.” Olson cautioned farmers against assuming the disruption will lead to an extended surge in prices.
