NDSU evaluated 90 soybean varieties this summer for tolerance to iron deficiency chlorosis. IDC symptoms include yellow leaves with green veins, stunted plants and reduced yield. Varieties were rated on a one-to-five scale, with one indicating no chlorosis and five representing the most severe symptoms. NDSU Extension broadleaf crops agronomist Ana Carcedo said selecting an IDC tolerant variety is one of the best management options for fields with a history of the problem. The results are available through NDSU’s soybean variety trials.
