Rhonda Larson, East Grand Forks, Minnesota, is optimistic her sugarbeets will add tons in the weeks ahead. “The beets are small right now, but we’ve got four more weeks to go,” Larson said. “They can put on two tons a week now with this rain we just got, then it’ll be a nice crop.” Larson’s wheat crop wrapped up with yields ranging from 65 to 80 bushels per acre, protein at 14 percent and a 62-pound test weight average. Corn and soybeans also look good. The area stayed dry throughout the summer, but scattered rainfall helped keep crops going.
