The canola harvest is largely complete in the Hazen area, with yields reflecting the wide variation in rainfall across western North Dakota. Retzlaff Seed and Supply’s Bailey Reiser said dryland trials in one of the drier areas yielded roughly 1,400 to 1,500 pounds per acre. Reiser said canola acreage continues to expand in western North Dakota. “Over the last few years, it has gradually gotten to be more and more acres. We are figuring out what varieties work better for western North Dakota versus the eastern side of the state, so it’s kind of cool to see, and it’s just overall growing.” The Hazen stop on the RRFN Crop Tour can be found online.
