Despite significant drought stress, Clark Price is cautiously optimistic about crop prospects in the Washburn-Hensler area of central North Dakota. Price has both dryland and irrigated soybeans and said the yield potential is dramatically different between the two. “It’s anybody’s guess, in my opinion, on the dryland beans because they’ve been so drought-stressed, but they’ve hung on better than I expected them to,” Price said. “I’m hopeful for 25-bushel dryland beans, but I’m not sure if they’re there or not. The irrigated beans should be a good crop. They should be in the 70- to 80-bushel range.” Price is also surprised by how well the corn has handled the dry conditions. “These new hybrids today survive our droughts way better than they used to.” Watch the interview from the RRFN Crop Tour.
