It’s one thing for farmers to have a story to tell; it’s another thing to have people tell you their stories. “It’s to make farmers and people who are advocating for industry positions have the ability to hear other people’s stories so you know what they’re actually worried about,” said communications strategist Vance Crowe. Big picture issues like the use of crop protection products or the adoption of artificial intelligence are based on how people feel. Vance says the culture wars are not decided by the people in the middle, but by the extremes on both sides of an issue. The people in the middle who don’t have strong feelings will say, if it means that much to them, yeah, let’s go that way until they realize, wow, that’s a little more extreme than what we want.” Crowe will be part of the Next 5 Years Executive Conference in Fargo on September 10.
