The American Crystal Sugar Company pre-pile harvest has begun. Red River Valley Sugarbeet Growers Association Executive Director Harrison Weber says the growing season began wet in the northern Valley before conditions turned dry across much of the region. “We’re hair light on our tonnage, but real good sugar content relative to our five-year average.” Cercospora leaf spot pressure is still present but has been lower than the past two years. Dry conditions also allowed growers to stay within their fungicide application windows more consistently.
