The Health and Human Services Department and the USDA have submitted the federal government’s first proposed definition of ultra-processed foods for final review. While ultra-processed foods have been in the crosshairs of the Make America Healthy Again movement, there hasn’t been a federal definition of this food category. The FDA is also proposing regulations requiring manufacturers to increase transparency about the ingredients used in human or animal food.
