Recent rains have helped some crops in northeastern North Dakota. St. Thomas farmer Brent Baldwin says moisture is becoming increasingly important as soybeans and sugarbeets move through key development stages. “We caught rains early in June, but it’s getting dry up there again; we could use a splash just to get the beans to fill the pods and help beets get going.” Disease pressure has remained manageable with timely fungicide applications. “We sprayed the beans for white mold. The beets are on our second spray; I know guys down south are on their fourth and fifth spraying, but we’re at two coats of fungicide on them.”
