South Dakota State University Extension Feedlot Management Specialist Warren Rusche is monitoring the extreme heat’s impact on the state’s cattle. “It’s been pretty stressful, and in some cases, I’m hearing reports of mortality and death loss in central South Dakota related to heat.” The problem was amplified when temperatures stayed high overnight, giving cattle little opportunity to recover from the hot weather.
