Minnesota Representative Michelle Fischbach is supporting legislation from House Agriculture Committee Chairman Glenn “GT” Thompson to modernize the H-2A agricultural guest worker program. Fischbach said the bill would streamline timelines, allow labor certifications to remain valid for three years and make other changes requested by farmers. “This bill is very narrow. It’s directed right at agricultural workers,” Fischbach said. While some Republicans initially criticized the proposal, Fischbach believes many of their concerns stemmed from misunderstandings. “This is just about the H-2A bill. This is not about a path to citizenship. It simply deals with the H-2A visa.”
