North Dakota Senator John Hoeven is working with the Trump administration to secure additional financial assistance for farmers while continuing efforts to strengthen the domestic sugar industry. Hoeven said supplemental aid is needed to bridge the gap until new farm program provisions take effect later this year. “I’ve been working on it with the White House and with USDA to get our producers through to October when the One Big Beautiful Bill really kicks in. Hoeven is also pressing for changes to the sugar tariff rate, which has remained unchanged since 2000. “The first step is a (Section) 301 investigation that leads to an adjustment in the Tier 2 tariff rate and that would make a huge difference.”
