Washington, D.C., analyst Jim Wiesemeyer believes it will be a tight fit to complete the farm bill soon. “Both the House and the Senate really don’t have that many congressional days left before the November third elections,” said Wiesemeyer. Even if the Senate Agriculture Committee advances the bill, lawmakers still face the difficult task of reconciling differences between the House and Senate versions. “The Senate is going to change the farm bill version from what the House had, especially on some controversial issues, Prop 12 and things like that. I’m not going to be surprised if we have a post-election, lame duck session of Congress where they could deal with the farm bill at that time.”
