NDSU Extension Cropping Systems Specialist Jeff Stachler says this season’s weather has created challenges for several crops. “Twisted whorl corn syndrome is something that happens when we have rapid growth followed by cold weather, which is what we’ve had,” said Stachler. He is also concerned about spring wheat development after multiple days of 90-degree temperatures. “I’m concerned that we don’t have as many tillers on our spring wheat as we normally do because it was just too hot.”
