Jamestown, North Dakota area farmer Ryan Wanzek says favorable weather has delivered a good start to the growing season. “Overall, I’d say this is one of the better starts we’ve had in a while, just as far as with all the heat and moisture we’ve been getting consistently. The emergence has been really good. Corn stands are good.” Wanzek said rapid corn growth is creating challenges for herbicide applications. “Most of these chemicals that you spray on corn, you’re not supposed to spray on taller than 12-inch corn. It can make it brittle. So we’re racing the clock on the size of the corn plus the weather.”
