North Dakota’s diverse crop production system was part of the conversation during the Grand Farm Cultivate Conference during Ag Tech Week. SB&B Foods Supply Chain Vice President Scott Sinner said the state’s reputation for producing identity-preserved crops is a significant advantage. “These buyers are coming to this region because the farmers here understand food production, they understand contract production and meeting a specification,” said Sinner. “That’s just so important to a lot of these buyers that need specialty crops.” Sinner said weed control remains one of the barriers to entry for food-grade soybean production. “The nice thing that we (as a food-grade soybean company) have a Board of Trade, we have food-grade crop insurance and all of those tools that some of these other specialty crops don’t have,” he said.
