A study unveiled Friday highlights the potential economic opportunities with more irrigation in North Dakota. The irrigation and drainage study was commissioned by the North Dakota Legislature. The study said the state could develop another 1.3 million acres of irrigation based on soil suitability and water availability. Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring said the state’s crop mix and yields would have been very different if the irrigation infrastructure had been fully developed over the past 50 years.
