Minnesota cattle producers narrowly rejected a proposed increase in the state beef checkoff rate. “Only 21 percent of the mail-in ballots were actually returned,” said Kelly Schmidt, CEO, Minnesota Beef Council. “I wish there had been maybe a little more engagement in the process.” Schmidt said despite the failed proposal, the Minnesota Beef Council remains focused on its current programs. “We know that we can do great work with the current $1-per-head checkoff,” Schmidt said. “The work goes on and none of that changes; we stay laser focused on that and keep charging forward.”
