Farmers in southwestern Minnesota have made significant planting progress this spring thanks to favorable field conditions and an early start to the season. Jeff Strock, a researcher at the Southwest Research and Outreach Center, said an open winter allowed farmers to begin fieldwork earlier than normal. “Planting conditions were just absolutely fabulous.” Strock said recent warmer temperatures are finally helping corn and soybean emergence after cool weather slowed development earlier this spring.
