A virus that was eradicated from the U.S. swine herd in 2004 is back. Pseudorabies have been confirmed in Iowa and Texas. The Iowa case is associated with a shipment of swine breeding stock from an outdoor herd in Texas that potentially had contact with feral hogs. The Iowa site was depopulated, and additional testing is in place within a five-mile radius. This was an isolated incident and there is no threat to human health or food safety.
