The Fed left interest rates unchanged in a range of 3.5 to 3.75 percent. This was the last meeting with Jerome Powell serving as chair. Surprisingly, Powell said he will remain on the Fed board after his chairmanship ends next month. A separate term as a board member allows Powell to remain in that role until early 2028. Typically, Fed chairs step down when their successor is installed.
