National Association of Wheat Growers CEO Sam Kieffer wants to keep the pressure on as the farm bill moves to the Senate. In his view, the current farm policy is outdated, noting the existing law dates back to 2018 and is based on even older data. “We’ve been dealing with high input prices and low crop prices for four years,” Kieffer said, adding that drought conditions are further complicating the outlook for wheat producers across key states. Despite those challenges, Kieffer says wheat exports have remained a bright spot. Growth opportunities remain in markets such as Vietnam, Indonesia, Mexico and Japan.
