The Farm-to-School programs connect schools with local farms, bringing more fresh, regional foods to the cafeteria. Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton School District Director of Nutrition Service Shannon Nowak values this program. It does take additional education. ‘Our kids have a disconnect with what our food processing and system is,” said Nowak. “When we first started introducing Farm to School, the flavors were different, there wasn’t a lot of packaging and a lot of processing to it. That actually has been one of our biggest challenges is educating the kids to understand that.” The Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton School District hosted a tasting event Thursday night featuring dry beans.
