Former House Agriculture Committee Chair David Scott has died. Scott, who was 80 years old, was in his 12th term in Congress representing the Atlanta area. Scott took over leadership of the ag committee in 2020. In a post-election shakeup two years later, Scott lost the lead Democratic spot on the ag committee to Minnesota Representative Angie Craig. At the time, Scott’s effectiveness in leadership was questioned. Scott was the first African American to lead the committee.
