Market volatility has taken a different turn in 2026, driven more by global and political factors than traditional supply and demand. According to Northland Farm Business Management Instructor Betsy Jensen, the unpredictability has made marketing decisions more challenging. “It’s been chaotic because it’s not supply-demand issues necessarily that’s causing the changes, it’s external issues, political, economic changes that are causing the chaos.” Jensen encourages farmers to rely on disciplined marketing plans rather than trying to predict daily market swings. She remains optimistic. “I do believe that there still will be opportunities to make sales, don’t give up hope.”
