U.S. sunflower production totaled 2.3 billion pounds in 2025, more than double the amount produced in 2024. The production of oil-type sunflowers was up a dramatic 226 percent from the previous year. Confections were down about four percent. According to the just-released Sunflower Quality Report, the average oil content for oil-type sunflowers was just under 44 percent. That’s up from 42.8 percent in 2024. The test weight averaged just over 30 pounds, which is identical to the previous year. Moisture levels were one percent higher than the average of 2024 samples. The test weight for confection sunflowers was unchanged from the previous year at 22.4 pounds per bushel. Moisture was down slightly to 10.1 percent.
