Columbia Grain International hosted the grand opening of its new flagship pulse processing plant at Valley City, North Dakota. Plant Manager Cody Micheals outlined the reason Valley City was chosen for this facility. “Number one, this property came up for sale, and it’s touching our other two elevators that we already own; two, it’s becoming more and more common practice to grow edible beans in this neck of the woods, and three, there’s not a lot of competition out in the southern (North Dakota) area so it just made a lot of sense for us.” The Columbia Grain location is located just off of I-94 and has convenient access to rail. “We are very fortunate to have our other companies not too far away, right on the mainline BNSF and with Spiritwood, we get service almost daily.” Columbia Grain will handle all classes of dry beans at this location with an emphasis on blacks and pintos.
