The National Association of Wheat Growers is calling on federal regulators to remove countervailing duties on phosphate fertilizers from Morocco and Russia, arguing the policy is increasing costs for U.S. farmers. NAWG says fertilizer makes up about 38 percent of total wheat production expenses, and research indicates the duties have added nearly $7 billion in costs for U.S. producers since 2021. Wheat growers alone have absorbed close to $1 billion of that total. NAWG warns that the added financial pressure could impact planting decisions and overall wheat production if the policy remains in place.
