Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley says farmers are under increasing financial stress as lower commodity prices and rising input costs continue to tighten margins. Speaking during National Ag Week, Grassley said the current ag economy highlights the need for immediate action from Congress. “National Ag Week is a time to celebrate the hard work of the 2 percent of the family farmers and 2 percent of our national population who put food on the table for the other 98 percent of Americans.” Grassley says lawmakers are making some progress toward a new farm bill, but emphasized that more must be done quickly to support producers. “It’s been 8 years since we passed a farm bill, and farmers are hurting. We need to get a farm bill done now to address the ag economy today.” Grassley added that expanding E15 access and improving transparency in fertilizer markets remain priorities as Congress works through the farm bill process.
