The Trump administration is closely watching fertilizer markets as geopolitical tensions involving Iran raise concerns about higher input costs heading into the spring planting season. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins says the administration is evaluating potential steps to help farmers manage fertilizer prices if global supply disruptions worsen. “We’re looking at every potential avenue to keep the fertilizer costs down as these farmers are going into planting season,” Rollins said. “No big announcements yet, but it is coming. I have been in conversation with the Hill on that as they’re looking at additional funds for our farmers, so at this point, everything is on the table.” Rollins says most farmers have already secured fertilizer supplies for this season, but about 25 percent have not, leaving them more exposed to price volatility. She says the administration is monitoring market developments closely as global tensions continue to influence energy and fertilizer supply chains.
