South Dakota Farmers Union President Doug Sombke is worried about the next generation of farmers. “We have a horrible opportunity that we could lose another generation of farmers with what we’re facing.” Sombke thinks finding new avenues for domestic products is a good place to start helping younger farmers. “We’ve got to find ways to help ourselves, and one of those ways is to start using more of our own domestic product, and one thing that we have a lot of is corn.” Sombke says year-round E15 is good, but E30 is better. “We have a study by the Environmental Protection Agency with the University of Nebraska that says E30 works, and it works in vintage vehicles as well as new vehicles. So, why are we even messing around with E15? Why don’t we go right to E30 and get rid of this big pile of corn?”
