President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping are scheduled to meet from March 31st to April 2nd in Beijing. After securing 12 million metric tons of soybeans, Trump said China would buy an additional 8 million. Martinson Ag Risk Management President Randy Martinson is taking a ‘wait and see’ approach. “China hasn’t really said they’re going to buy that, they just said they’re considering it.” Martinson expects some kind of announcement, but doesn’t anticipate China purchasing the full 8 million tons. “We don’t have the 8 million to sell them. We’d have to get prices up high enough to slow down our crush or slow down other importers from buying.” Brazilian soybeans are more competitively priced than U.S. beans in the world market. Martinson, who was part of the CHS meetings in Grand Forks Thursday, said China may make a political decision to appease Trump.
